Kev’s latest journey took him through the scenic roads of Baxter County to the charming city of Mountain Home. This place, nestled in the Ozarks, has a rich history and warm community spirit that keeps Kev coming back for more.
The History of Mountain Home
Mountain Home has been known by many names over the years. Initially settled in the early 19th century, it was first called Rapp’s Barren, due to its dry and seemingly uninhabitable terrain. The town was later renamed "Talbert" after the first postmaster, and then changed again to "Mountain Home" in the mid-1850s, reflecting its picturesque location among the rolling hills. The name stuck, and Mountain Home grew from a small frontier village into a vibrant city with a rich agricultural and educational history.
Cozy Breakfast at The Cozey Kitchen
On this particular visit, Kev made his third stop at his now-favorite breakfast spot in Mountain Home: The Cozey Kitchen, located at 3985 Highway 62 East, Mountain Home, AR 72653. The Cozey Kitchen is famous for its homestyle meals, and Kev knew exactly what he wanted: their hearty breakfast with eggs cooked to perfection.
Kev sat down with Teresa Racaniello, the owner of The Cozey Kitchen, who has been at the helm for over 20 years. Teresa shared her journey of owning and operating the restaurant, her passion for serving fresh and wholesome meals, and how deeply she’s connected with the Mountain Home community. Over the years, The Cozey Kitchen has become more than just a restaurant—it’s a gathering place where locals and travelers alike can enjoy comforting meals and great company.
Teresa is proud of the role her restaurant plays in the community. Whether it's supporting local charities or welcoming regular customers like family, she has been a pillar of Mountain Home for decades.
Sweet Stop at Petite Patisserie European Bakery
Kev’s next stop was a sweet one at Petite Patisserie European Bakery, where the scent of freshly baked goods filled the air. Known for their authentic European-style pastries and bread, this bakery is a hidden gem in the heart of Mountain Home.
Kev indulged in three of the bakery’s standout menu items:
Almond Croissants – Flaky and buttery with a delicious almond filling.
Éclairs – Filled with rich custard and topped with a smooth chocolate glaze.
Fruit Tarts – A beautiful blend of fresh seasonal fruits atop a creamy custard base in a crisp, golden tart shell.
More Local Dining Spots
Mountain Home is packed with dining options that suit every taste. If you’re planning a visit, be sure to check out these other fantastic local spots:
Fred's Fish House – A must-visit for fried catfish lovers, offering generous portions and Southern hospitality.
El Chico Café – Serving up Mexican favorites, including sizzling fajitas and homemade tortillas.

Mountain Home’s blend of history, warm community, and diverse culinary scene makes it a destination worth exploring again and again. From breakfast at The Cozey Kitchen to sweet treats at Petite Patisserie, every stop on this journey was a reminder of the charm and flavor this small city holds. Until next time, roll on with Kev as he uncovers more hidden gems across Arkansas!
